The Newport Recreation Department is sponsoring the following dances at the Newport Municipal Buliding

Friday Feb. 3rd
Friday March 9th
Friday April 13th
Friday May 11th.

These dances are for 5th, 6th, and 7th grades only.
The cost is $5.00 Per student and is from 7:00PM to 9:00PM.
Music is done by Double Trouble

We will be using the Newport City School dress code policy for our dances. If any parent would like to chaperone these dances or has any questions, please call the Newport City Recreation Office at 802-334-6345 and ask for Reg.

 

Homeowners and renters in Vermont who suffered damage or losses in floods over the past few weeks should call 2-1-1 to report that damage. 2-1-1 will record all damage information and pass along to Vermont Emerrgency Managment to assist in its efforts to recieve a federal declartion and financial help for homeowners.

VEM is currently working to estimate private property damage around Vermont to determine if the state may qualify for an Individual Assistance disaster decleration from the Federal Emergency Management Agency. 2-1-1 is an easy to remember central call point for all homeowners to report this damage. Vermont has received NO disaster declaration for individual or public assistance as yet.

The state of Vermont needs to show significant damage to private homes to qualify for an individual assistance declaration from the federal government. it is imperative that all homeowners who have damages call 2-1-1 and make a report. However, those homeowners should not expect any immediate relief or assistance when calling 2-1-1.

- 15800 is the total saved gallons per year when 1 cell phone is kept out of a landfil.
- 78.4 years is the current life span of 1 human being in the US.
- 182 and a half gallons per year x 78.4 years (the avg. life span) =14,308 gallons

Keeping (1) cell phone out of landfill provides enough clean water to sustain a human being over their entire life.  Here is the kicker: over 1 billion cell phone are currently purchased a year.  Hundreds of milions of other electronic devices are also purchased each year.

ENERGY SAVINGS AND COLLECTIONS PRESERVATON ARE KEY BENEFITS WITH NEW SKYLIGHTS AT ST. JOHNSBURY ATHENAEUM

For almost 140 years, the original metal and glass Victorian-style skylights above the Art Gallery at St. Johnsbury Athenaeum protected one of the most prized art collections in the country from the unpredictable weather of northern New England.

The Art Gallery at the Athenaeum features over 120 paintings, sculptures, and other fine works highlighting the American landscape, classical studies, and reproductions of Renaissance and Baroque masterworks. Many paintings by the Hudson River School artists are on display including Jasper Cropsey, Asher B. Durand, Sanford Gifford, and Worthington Whittredge. The most prominent painting in the Gallery is Albert Bierstadt’s mammoth 10 x 15 foot masterpiece Domes of the Yosemite, one of the most famous paintings in America.

An in-depth analysis of the condition of the skylights revealed that they were severely deteriorated to a point requiring wholesale replacement. For the past three years, the Athenaeum has been
